Education
Learning and study form an integral part of who we are as Jews. Formal and informal education at all levels – religion schools for children, family learning and adult learning programs – form part of every community’s commitment to their members. For its part, The Union for Progressive Judaism offers a range of programs and delivery models with a particular Progressive focus. It also encourages participation by its members in other programs offered within the Jewish community – e.g. Limmud Oz and the Florence Melton Adult Mini School.
The Union for Progressive Judaism is committed to enhancing the delivery of Jewish education to all of its affiliated bodies and institutions. The staff of the UPJ works directly with the congregations, day schools and Netzer in developing curriculum and teacher education programs for their faculties and facilitators.
The UPJ supports qualified Jewish educators with professional development opportunities to attend local, federal and international conferences, such as Limmud Oz, Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) Educators Conferences and the Conference on Alternatives in Jewish Education (CAJE), among others.
A Progressive Jewish Educators Seminar is held annually in conjunction with a federal conference. It brings together educational leaders and teachers to share ideas and learn about the latest trends in Jewish education.
