DRASH – BESHALLACH SHIRA

Rabbi Dr.Orna Triguboff

Emanuel Synagogue

Shalom dear community

This week, we explore Parashat Beshalach and we are reminded of the profound journey from oppression to liberation that the Israelites experienced as they crossed the Sea of Reeds. This narrative resonates deeply with our own lives, especially in light of the recent terror attack at Bondi Beach, which has left many in our community grappling with fear and uncertainty.

As the Israelites left Egypt, they found themselves facing a formidable sea and an army pursuing them. Yet, it was in their moment of greatest despair that they witnessed the miraculous separation of the waters, symbolising hope and divine intervention. As we reflect on this powerful story, we also acknowledge the trauma and fear that such events bring into our lives.

The aftermath of the attack has challenged us, but it has also illuminated the strength of our community. Just as the Israelites came together to sing the Song of the Sea in gratitude for their deliverance, we too must find our voices in unity and healing. It is through our connections, our support for one another, and our shared values that we can transform trauma into resilience.

This moment calls for communal healing a reminder that we are stronger together. Let us uplift one another, ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued as we navigate the challenging emotions that have surfaced over the last few weeks.

Just as our ancestors had the courage to cross the parted sea, may we have the courage to do what we can to care for each other and care for ourselves.

As we celebrate this week’s Torah wisdom, let us tap into the power of our collective spirit to overcome darkness, embracing both the miracles and the challenges that come our way.

Blessings for a week of healing and light,

Rabbi Dr. Orna Triguboff
