Reflections on the UPJ Gathering

November 29th 2025 – November 30th 2025, Sydney

This past weekend, UPJ held their 2025 gathering joined by Presidents, Rabbis and Executive Director from congregations across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The gathering began with a welcome dinner on Saturday night where we reconnected, listened to a discussion with Rabbi Allison Conyer and joined together in a beautiful Havdalah with Cantor Toby Glaser of North Shore Temple Emanuel.

On Sunday we met at Emanuel Synagogue where we held 3 interesting workshops addressing 3 major issues facing our synagogues today. With further discussions with Netzer who presented a summary of this past year’s activities and UPJ presenting a look ahead at 2026.

We were especially grateful for the way delegates engaged with the leadership challenges session and with one another. It is clear that our Progressive Jewish community is strengthened when we come together with honesty, curiosity and a willingness to support each other. We look forward to building on the relationships and ideas that emerged during the day, and to future opportunities to partner with you in strengthening Progressive Judaism across our region.
