TSGC thanks Christian clergy

Temple Shalom Gold Coast (TSGC) marked Shabbat Shuva with a poignant morning service to thank the city’s Christian clergy for their support since October 7 2023. Soon after the terrorist attacks in Israel, over 50 members of the Gold Coast’s Christian clergy – led by Pastor Sue Baynes – signed a letter of condolence and support for the Gold Coast’s Jewish community. Since that time, many of these signatories have become vocal of the local Jewish community, and been an essential support in the fight against anti-Semitism. To thank them, Rabbi Adi Cohen (pictured) invited Pastor Baynes and each of the signatories to attend the Shabbat Shuva morning service. It was an emotional morning for congregants and guests alike, and was another successful event held by Temple Shalom to build lasting connections within our wider Gold Coast community. The Shabbat Shuva service was followed with a commemoration on October 7 open to community members, with elected representatives being in attendance – including John-Paul Langbroek MP, Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships representing Queensland’s Leader of the Opposition, David Crisafulli MP.  Written by Ben Naday, Temple Shalom Co-VP
