Unite with Light

On Friday 19 December, the sixth night of Chanukah, the UPJ designated Unite with Light as a Chanukah Solidarity Service.

Progressive Jewish communities across Australia and New Zealand were invited to come together in their own congregations to celebrate Chanukah and Shabbat, while also commemorating the tragedy that occurred in Bondi on the first night of Chanukah. Alongside the lighting of the Chanukiah, a yahrzeit candle was lit and Kaddish was recited.

Through these shared acts of remembrance and prayer, our synagogues expressed collective solidarity as Progressive Jews, standing with the Jewish community of Sydney in light, compassion, and unity.
